Charity Spotlight: The San Antonio Food Bank

We’ve already talked quite a bit about the Food Bank this year, and even hosted a fundraising effort for their San Antonio Goes Orange campaign in September. However, given the time of year, we thought it would be appropriate to mention the good work they do one more time.

The San Antonio Food Bank operates as sort of a way station for food donations. It collects the donations from a wide variety of sources including growers, manufacturers, retailers, restaurants, wholesalers, food drives and individuals such as you and me.

The Food Bank then packages these food supplies in its warehouse and ships them out to 500 partner agencies in 16 counties. Partner agencies include everything from churches and food pantries, to youth programs and senior centers. These agencies then distribute the food to over 230,000 people, more than one-third of whom are children. An additional 15 percent are elderly and 67 percent have incomes under the federal poverty level.

In this Thanksgiving season, one of the things that many of us can be thankful for is food on the table. However, lots of people we may see or interact with on a daily basis can’t say the same thing. Food is not a guarantee for many of our neighbors.

The San Antonio Food Bank is one of our favorite charities here at Steamer’s Carpet Care, and we ask you to remember it during your holiday festivities. You can learn more about the Food Bank and how to make a donation at their website.

From everyone here at Steamer’s Carpet Care, we wish you all a happy Thanksgiving!
