Charity Spotlight: Texas Public Radio

This week we’re premiering a new, ongoing series on our blog. Every month we’ll be highlighting a different San Antonio non-profit that we love and appreciate. This week we’ll be looking at Texas Public Radio which operates KPAC 88.3, KSTX 89.1 and KTXI 90.1.

If you’re a frequent radio scanner in San Antonio or New Braunfels, you’ve probably stumbled across one or two of the Texas Public Radio stations before.

KPAC 88.3 is a 24-hour classical music station that airs a number of award-winning public radio programs such as The Metropolitan Opera and Performance Today. On Sunday afternoons they also allow listeners to tune into the San Antonio Symphony.

KSTX 89.1 airs a number of popular National Public Radio programs such as Morning Edition, All Things Considered and A Prairie Home Companion. It has been broadcasting since 1988 and will be celebrating its 24th anniversary this next Wednesday.

KTXI 90.1 caters to Hill Country audiences north of San Antonio and out toward Fredericksburg. KTXI is a sort of hybrid station, playing both classical music and NPR news.

The mission of Texas Public Radio (TPR) is “to engage in the production and distribution of non-commercial informational, educational, cultural and entertainment content for the people of Texas.” The values of the TPR include contributing to the appreciation of artistic expression, respecting diverse points of view and facilitating civil and constructive discourse.

Here at Steamer’s Carpet Care, we think it’s important for all of San Antonio to have access to this amazing public resource and the educational and cultural material it delivers. Thousands of us already enjoy the commercial-free programming of TPR and will continue to do so in the future.

All three TPR stations are supported through a variety of sources including companies, individual donors and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. If you would like to support Texas Public Radio, visit their website and see how you can help.
