Charity Spotlight: Haven for Hope

For this month’s charity spotlight, we turn our attention to Haven for Hope, a San Antonio non-profit organization that seeks to provide a comprehensive answer to the problem of homelessness.

Haven for Hope’s official mission is “to offer a place of hope and new beginnings,” and since 2010 it’s been doing exactly that. Situated on a 37-acre campus just west of downtown San Antonio, Haven for Hope provides food, shelter and clothing in addition to an array of social, educational, and even medical services to help people get back on their feet.

The campus includes an emergency shelter for individuals and families suffering from homelessness, but also offers a structured program for those who want to commit to it as members. This program requires partnering with a case manager and committing to 40 hours per week in productive activity that’s geared toward achieving self-sufficiency (job training, education, etc.)

The 15 building-Transformational Campus is the largest of its kind in the United States, and on any given night, Haven for Hope provides shelter for approximately 1,600 people.

It all began just seven years ago when business & civic leader Bill Greehey watched a documentary on TV about homelessness in San Antonio and was inspired. After a few years of research around the U.S., the vision was clear and the campus was built.

Soon the organization will complete its construction of a 150-unit housing complex to further accommodate those struggling to beat homelessness.

With anywhere between 3,500 and 4,500 people are on the streets each night in our city, Steamer’s Carpet Care is proud to recognize an organization that’s really making a difference.
