Top Songs for Vacuuming

Since the invention of the home vacuum cleaner, people have been belting out songs while they clean their carpets. When you’re vacuuming, it’s hard for anyone to hear just how bad you sound or how off-key you might be. It’s like getting a free pass to be as obnoxious as you want.

To celebrate this time-honored tradition of the vacuum cabaret singer, we’ve made a list of the top songs for vacuuming. Our choices didn’t come easily and, in the end, were narrowed down by three different criteria. We based our choices on a) how catchy the song is b) how hard it is to sing (the harder the better) and c) how embarrassed you would be if someone caught you singing it without a vacuum.

In no particular order, here is our list.

  • “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” Beyoncé – Once you hear “Single Ladies” it’s hard to stop hearing it. Beyoncé’s vocals are incredible and hard to mimic without running out of breath. Do not attempt to sing this song outside of the car, the shower or the help of your vacuum cleaner.
  • “My Heart Will Go On” Céline Dion – Yeah, it’s that one from Titanic. Scientists have proven that it’s impossible to listen to this song and not tear up (just a little bit). The biggest song of 1997 is now the perfect companion for that lonely day of vacuuming and reminiscing about that one time Leo froze to death.
  • “I Will Always Love You” Whitney Houston – Let’s face it, Whitney just did it better than Dolly. This other 90s classic has been the scourge of karaoke bars across the country since it appeared on The Bodyguard soundtrack. Only for vacuuming.
  • “Don’t Stop Believing” Journey – After Glee got a hold of it, this song was everywhere for a little while. Don’t let the Glee cast fool you, however, this song isn’t easy to sing. Surgeon General’s Warning: sporadic jumping and air guitar solos have been reported by many who have played this song while alone.
  • “Hound Dog” Elvis Presley – Go ahead, put on your best Elvis impersonation. No one’s going to hear anyways because you’re vacuuming.
  • “R.E.S.P.E.C.T” Aretha Franklin – This song comes with attitude. Putting a hand on your hip and looking fierce is mandatory. Grooving a little bit may be unavoidable. The only downside to this one is that you probably won’t get much vacuuming done.
  • “Rolling in the Deep” Adele – Ok, so it’s been overplayed. We don’t care. It’s still a fantastic “you done me wrong” song for vacuuming. Many have attempted to sing this song better than Adele and many have failed. Again, only appropriate for non-audible singing.

Here at Steamer’s Carpet Care we hope some of these make your playlist the next time you’re vacuuming. Do you have a better list or a song we left off? Let us know by dropping a comment on our Facebook page.
