03 Jul San Antonio Fireworks Guide
This year it looks like the Fourth of July may actually happen like it’s supposed to in San Antonio. Last year a record drought prompted officials to declare a fireworks ban that even grounded public firework events. The year before that, Hurricane Alex had just landed on the coast and the sky was dull and cloudy.
With any luck, this year should be different. Here at Steamer’s Carpet Care, we’re looking forward to the Fourth of July holiday and have a few tips on where to see the best fireworks displays in the city.
City Bash – The official City of San Antonio fireworks event will be held at Woodlawn Lake. The event actually begins at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with a Salute to the Red, White and Blue parade and costume contest. Opening ceremonies, carnival rides, and games begin at noon. The fireworks will start at 9 p.m. after a performance by the Concert Band of the Air Force Band of the West.
Stars and Stripes Over San Antonio – This fireworks display presented by the Chamber of Commerce is being billed as the “largest and longest” fireworks show in San Antonio. The rockets start flying at 9:30 p.m. in HemisFair Park, but get there early to enjoy a live music lineup featuring the Klocks and the Palacio Brothers.
Theme Parks – Every year (except for 2011) Sea World puts on a beautiful fireworks display. This year the show begins at 9:45 p.m. over Ski Lake. Fiesta Texas will also be hosting a Lights of Liberty fireworks extravaganza on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. Reservations are encouraged for both events
Schertz Jubilee – If you don’t mind a short drive, the Schertz Jubilee is sure to be spectacular this year. Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. in Pickrell Park but Schertz will be partying all day on the 4th and even a bit the day before. In its entirety, the Jubilee includes a parade, 5K run, carnival, rib cookoff and some live music. Pretty impressive right?
For the first time in recent memory, neither Lackland nor Joint Base Randolph will be having fireworks displays due to budgetary issues. Hopefully, however, there should be enough other shows to make up for the missing festivities.
Here at Steamer’s we’d like to wish everyone in San Antonio a happy Fourth. We’re proud to be a part of the San Antonio community and can’t wait to see our city on holiday this Wednesday.
