Du Point Teflon: What Is It?

Whether it’s a single room in your house or 20 floors in a hotel, we use the same methods to get your carpet looking like new again and prevent future stains and spills from ruining the value of your carpet. We use a product by Du Point called Teflon®teflon.pic Fabric Protector. Teflon is used to make non-stick pans and pots, automotive upholstery, carpets, clothing, and most fabric products. It repels substances and make stain removal easy and effortless. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency supports the use of Teflon as a helpful way to keep fabrics clean and sustain their value.

History

Teflon® was discovered by accident in 1938.  Roy J. Plunckett, a recent organic chemistry graduate from Ohio State University. He was experimenting with gasses related to Freon, a chemical used in coolant systems like refrigerators and air conditioning units. Freon is supposed to remain unfrozen even though it cools down the air, but a sample of Freon which Plunkett was working with froze overnight. However, rather than disregard the mistake, he played with it a bit and found really interesting properties in the compoundf. It was really slippery and remained inert when mixed with most chemicals, including highly corrosive acids. Thus, Teflon was born.

Sustainability

Teflon® fabric products can really help save energy when using a washing machine and when cleaning your carpet or fabrics. It minimizes damage from normal wear and tear and when accidents or spills happen. When you have fabric that is treated with Teflon, the product will not hold onto stains or dirt as it would normally. In regards to clothing you won’t have to wash articles multiple times using hot water temperatures and lots of detergent. Using a professional Teflon treatment on your carpet makes stain clean-up easier and keeps you from having to replace carpet or spend more time using products to keep it clean. Regularly cleaning carpet will help keep it clean, but over time dirt and other particles lodge themselves into the carpet fibers where dirt is almost impossible to remove.

How we use Teflon®

After we get done cleaning a carpet and making it look like new, we treat it with Teflon® fabric protector to keep the future accidents and normal use from wearing your carpet down to a point where it needs to be replaced. So first we get your carpet looking like new again with or deep cleaning system, then we use Teflon to ensure that it stays looking like new for longer even in the wake of accidents and heavy use.

You can’t buy Teflon® in your normal retail stores. Clothing uses the product when manufacturing the clothes because the chemical has to be completely embedded into the fabric. Our team of professionals had to undergo extensive training to understand how to apply Teflon to fabric surfaces and offer this great service to you.
